Travel Route

Entebbe / Kampala.

The ideal tour for adventurers, who have both the BIG FIVE as well as the mountain gorillas on their bucket list. Travel through beautiful Uganda while exploring the mundane surroundings of the Pearl of Africa. The wild animals you will encounter during game drives in different national parks include elephants, lions, warthogs, crocodiles, hippos, giraffes, buffaloes, leopards, and more. One of the many highlights of this tour: meet the rare rhinos in a sanctuary. Later on, you will trek into the dense rain forests of Kibale, where you will spot plenty of primates. Spoiler alert: With a little luck you come close to men’s closest relative: the chimpanzees.

Save the best for last: The Bwindi Impenetrable National Park where you will encounter magnificent mountain gorillas.

Day 2: Arrival and transfer to Murchison Falls

In the morning you will proceed to Murchison Falls National Park. In northwest Uganda, the park sits on the shore of Lake Albert. The Victoria Nile River surges through a narrow gap over a massive drop at Murchison Falls. En route, you will already have your first tour stop. Join the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary in Nakasongola for the game walk with an experienced Ranger guide to see rhinos, the first animal on your list of the Big Five.

Our recommendation is to arrive the day before so that you can do some sightseeing in Kampala and Entebbe before transferring to Murchison Falls National Park. We are happy to assist with any planning.

Day 3: Morning Game Drive in Murchison Falls National Park and afternoon Boat Cruiseto the Murchison Falls

After early morning breakfast, you will be picked up by your guide for an early morning game drive in Murchison Falls National Park. The best time to spot wild animals. You will encounter different species of animals such as giraffes, lions, elephants, Uganda Kobs among others. On top, you will be treated with beautiful sights of the Albert delta, and various bird species.

After lunch, you will go for a boat trip to explore the park's main attraction - Murchison Falls along the striking Victoria Nile, with its impressive schools of hippos, crocodiles, and abundant birdlife, including herons, cormorants, ducks, bee-eaters, fish eagles, kingfishers and sometimes even the rare shoebill stork.

Uganda's Murchison Falls, or Kabalega Falls, is located between Lake Kyoga and Lake Albert. A gap in the rocks only 7 m wide allows the Nile to pass through and tumble 43 m before entering Lake Albert at the top of Murchison Falls.

Day 4:  Transfer to Queen Elizabeth and evening game drive in Queen Elizabeth

Wake up in the morning and enjoy a healthy breakfast. We have a long transfer ahead of us, before we arrive at one of Uganda’s most famous national parks: Queen Elizabeth. In its stunning setting on the rift valley floor, Queen Elizabeth National Park is Uganda's most popular and diverse conservation area.

The park is surrounded by lakes, escarpments, and the snow-capped Rwenzori Mountain. With more than 95 mammals, 612 bird species, and habitat for tree climbing lions, the park has one of the highest biodiversity ratings of any national park in the world. As you drive through the park to your lodge in the evening, you will see wildlife including Buffalos, Lions, Waterbuck, Leopards, Uganda Kob, and Warthogs.

Day 5: Kibale chimpanzee trekking and boat cruise

Drive to Kibale National Park in the morning for a chimpanzee tracking experience. Observe the man’s closest relatives in the wild and watch them as they play, swing on tree branches, and fight for food. Africa's Kibale National Forest has one of the highest concentrations and diversity of primates.

This region is home to a large population of endangered chimpanzees, the red colobus monkey (endangered), and the rare L'Hoest's monkey (vulnerable), making it an excellent location for chimpanzee tracking safaris. In the afternoon, you will take a boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel, a wide, 32-kilometer-long natural channel that links Lake Edward and Lake George, and is a dominant feature of Queen Elizabeth National Park.

The channel attracts a varied range of animals and birds, with one of the world's largest concentrations of hippos and numerous Nile crocodiles. At a lucky moment, some animals will be found drinking water, taking a bath, or even hunting.

Day 6: Drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park – Community Walk

First you will enjoy your breakfast early in the morning, and then you will proceed to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.

A morning game drive is another option for those who wish to capture stunning sunrise photos on a safari.

The Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in Uganda has one of the most bio-diverse systems on the planet. The mountain gorilla population within its borders makes up half of the world's population. Due to its biological significance, the forest has been designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

In the evening you will join a community walk where you will meet with Batwa people, famously called ‘the keepers of the forest’.

Day 7: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi

Big day ahead. You will finally meet the magnificent gorillas. Breakfast is served before you transfer to the infamous Bwindi forest, where you will gather with a tiny group of like-minded adventurers, for a briefing before your unforgettable gorilla trekking in Uganda starts.

Bring a packed lunch (provided by your hotel), hiking shoes, a camera, a raincoat, and your camera to the park headquarters.  Once your ranger guide has briefed you, you will begin trekking the mountain gorillas through the ancient Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in Uganda, which typically takes a couple of hours depending on the location of the mountain gorillas. You will spend one full hour observing these magnificent animals in their natural habitat. This once-in-a-lifetime experience will put a smile on your face for the rest of the tour.

After the gorilla trekking, you will transfer to Lake Bunyonyi.

Day 8: Lake Bunyonyi

Spend a relaxing day at Lake Bunyonyi. Green and lush terraced hills surround the lake, punctuated by a variety of over 200 bird species. Birds of migratory origin as well as water birds live at the park. Bird enthusiasts will find it an ideal place to watch birds. The Nyombi swamp is home to a variety of assorted birds.

Interestingly, Lake Bunyonyi is not only free from dangerous aquatic creatures like crocodiles and hippos, but it's also free from bilharzia, making it the safest place for swimming. Despite being the deepest lake in Uganda and the second largest in Africa, the waters of Lake Bunyonyi are easy to swim in, making it an ideal location for taking a break during your trip.
